Personal expense: Toddler sent for treatment to India

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Owais Muzaffar has sent a toddler to India for treatment on his personal expenses. Tazeen Fatima, the two-year-old child, is suffering from a heart condition. Tazeen’s father said he was thankful to the minister for his help as he could not bear the cost of treatment.

During a surprise visit to the Civil Hospital Karachi yesterday, Muzaffar inspected the emergency department and expressed resentment over the out-of-order biomedical machines and air conditioners. He also expressed dissatisfaction over the non-availability of ventilators in the emergency ward.

He ordered all encroachments around the Civil Hospital be removed immediately and a police check post be set up at the main gate of the hospital, with around 15 to 20 policemen.

He also summoned the Commissioner South Mustafa Jamal Qazi and ordered him to have garbage dump in front of the emergency ward removed, so that the patients do not feel uncomfortable approaching the ward. The minister enquired about the welfare of the patients and expressed anger over the unhygienic conditions in the hospital.
